At Stitchology, we drew our block inspiration from the roadrunner, Marigold. Marigold lived in a bush in the front yard of Melisa's childhood home and would walk with her to work one summer when she taught at the Rio Grande Nature Center.

The ABQ Shop Hop is a fun activity for quilters and fabric collectors to enjoy the craft they all have in common; bringing this community closer together!

Grab a friend or two and enjoy a day of hopping from shop to shop. Pick up your passport at the first participating shop you visit and get it stamped at all the additional participating shops. Leave it with the last shop, and you’ll be entered for the grand prize drawings.

The block kit and supporting project kits can be purchased at Stitchology.  Keep scrolling for a how to video on sewing the block.

How to Sew the 2024 Shop Hop Block

At Stitchology we love roadrunners, so we crafted a little love story between Marigold the star of our 2024 Shop Hop Block, and Meep Meet the star of one of our bird quilt patterns.  I hope you enjoy.

It started out as a pretty normal day.

The cactus were lounging about in their normal beautiful, albeit prickly manner.

The sun had risen as per normal over the mountains. I had a few insects for breakfast, nothing unusual there.

I hopped-flew to a low adobe wall to enjoy the sun rays on my feathers. Then something caught my eye on a nearby wall.  I scurried over to take a peek. As it turns out that part was immaterial.

There was a pile of food for birds perhaps not as crafty as I at procuring meals.  That didn’t interest me.

I was staring at the thing that had caught my eye. Trying to figure out it’s purpose. Peculiar.

Then I heard my name, “Meep Meep.”

I looked about. Returned to my observations.

“Meep Meep.”

It’s hard to concentrate on one thing when your brain is being pulled in another direction.

I gave up on the peculiar thing, which was perfectly flat and just sitting there.

I hopped down in pursuit of the sound that had intruded on my exploration.

It became louder as I neared a chaparral.

“Meep Meep!”

My name, why was I hearing my name on an otherwise normal morning?

I could have  sworn the bush kicked sand at me! I hopped around it again.

“Meeeeeep Meeep!”

Now my name was being sung. At least it sounded like that to me.

I quickly turned the other way and ran right into the most beautiful roadrunner I had ever seen.

We stared at each other. Then hopped around.

Then we stared. Then she flew to the wall. I followed of course. We sat there. Then it was noon.  We ate because even love at first sight pauses for lunch.

This normal day had become very unusual.

The most beautiful roadrunner I had ever seen

found me -  Meep Meep. Even the cactus looked a little less prickly.

We sat together watching the sunset over the mesa.  Everything felt perfectly normal in a new unusual way. I had a feeling the next day would be a little less lonely.
