Foundations of Cowboy Hat Making Class

$920.00Price

THERE ARE TWO OPTIONS FOR RESERVING YOUR SPOT.  YOU CAN PUT 50% DOWN OR PAY IN FULL.  THE CLASS COST IS $920 AND INCLUDES ALL SUPPLIES.

Come learn vintage hat-making techniques from Tom Hirt, one of the most notable and established hatters in Hollywood.  You will design and create your own heirloom felt hat.  Learn to use vintage hat blocks and tools to form and shape your hat by hand using techniques and tools of early hatters.  Hand-workmanship will involve crown blocking, rim flanging, crown and brim finishing, sewing, steaming and shaping.  Take home a hat that is custom-made for you and your unique spirit!

Tom Hirt is an old-fashioned guy who does things the old-fashioned way. You might call him a throwback to a bygone era--that time when wranglers and cowboys took care of business with their bare hands.

Hirt continues that tradition to this day as a hat maker who makes superior-quality beaver felt hats one at a time by hand. Known as the Hat Maker for the Movies, he has designed hats for many famous clients including Val Kilmer, Sam Elliot, Sharon Stone.

His credits include Tombstone, The Quick and the Dead, Conagher and many others.

After almost 20 years, he is considered one of the West's most notable and most established hatters.

Class is Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, September 11th, 12th and 13th 2025 from 9-4.  We will break for lunch each day.  It is held at Stitchology in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

All supplies are included in the class fee.

CANCELLATION and REFUND POLICY:

Classes fill up quickly so it is essential to PRE-REGISTER.  If a cancellation is received at least SEVEN DAYS before the first day of class, a refund will be issued for the amount minus a 20% administration fee.  Cancellations received fewer than SEVEN DAYS in advance will not be refunded for any reason, including illness. If a class is canceled by Stitchology, you will receive a full refund.

Some classes do require you to come to class with your project precut or that you work on "homework" between class sessions. We use the most size inclusive patterns we can. It is your responsibility to ensure the pattern will fit. If you do not fall within the size parameters for the pattern you will need to make arrangements with us to have your pattern altered before the day of class. Please understand, if you are not prepared we cannot guarantee you will be able to attend/or finish the class.  If the teacher is unable to accommodate you, you will not be refunded the class fee. If you are allowed to attend class, you will not receive any additional instruction time.  If you need help prepping for the class or finishing you may arrange for help prior to or after the class for an additional fee.

If your class requires any supplies they can be purchased at Stitchology and you will receive a 10% discount.  **In store only**
